he quality and effectiveness of the incident report is usually dependent on how the incident was handled and how the information was gathered. Basic communication skills theory is very important in this task and is the cornerstone of successful incident report writing. Our course “Effective Tactical Communication Skills” would greatly benefit those individuals whose responsibility it is to respond, manage, investigate and report incidents within your organization. By tactical communication we mean how incidents can be better managed or incident escalation avoided by the nature of the communication/contact that occurs between your personnel and those involved in the incident. Your personnel need to have a firm understanding of the basic theory behind communication skills as well as the ability to implement them during an incident. These skills are then integrated into a predetermined communication strategy using tactical communication to manage a situation or to interview. Upon completion of this course your personnel should be able to competently demonstrate the ability to use tactical communication to manage an ongoing event, interview witnesses or persons involved in the event, lessen or eliminate the escalation of a situation, capture all relevant detail required to produce a report which correctly captures the relevant aspects of the event. Essential investigative techniques will be a proven asset taught throughout the course. This is important in minimizing liability, identifying ongoing or recurring issues and notifying appropriate persons within the organizations. |
SO-203 - Functional Note Taking and Report Writing

Our course Functional Note Taking and Report Writing is tailored to help your staff write reports which are accurate, complete and follow the policies and procedures of your organization. As stated previously the outcomes are to train personnel to minimize vicarious liability, capture historical events, identify recurring problems or persons, generate the proper proactive/preventative action and inform other designated departments using proper note taking and report writing skills. |
SO-204 - Introduction to Law / Powers of Arrest / Criminal Offences

As you know, a security officer on your staff has a wide range of authority and responsibility under the law. It is imperative that your security officers are thoroughly knowledgeable of the details regarding the limits of their authority and their legal responsibilities to act as stated in the Criminal Code of Canada and The Trespass to Property Act of Ontario. A security officer has totally different arrest authorities when compared to a special constable you might employ. Which of these your organization uses should be aligned with your needs and the way you wish incidents managed.
Our course Introduction to Law / Powers of Arrest is designed to insure your first level security staff manage and carry out their responsibilities in a manner which will be compliant with all laws and requirements in order to mitigate your organizations potential liability. This course covers such topics as:
- Legal definitions of such things as “legal grounds”, “case law”, “arrest”, etc.
- The levels of government under which the most common situations or offences belong to.
- What authority or obligation your security personnel have to question, interview, detain, or arrest an individual and under The Use of Force Model what level of response is appropriate.
- What are the company’s policies and how are they integrated with the authority to arrest of your staff.
- The steps to a proper arrest procedure.

SO-205 – Threat Risk Mitigation and Response

This program has been developed in accordance with Homeland security, Transport Canada (IABTI) International Association of Bomb Technicians Investigators guidelines. The Canada Labour Code Part II , Part XVII of the Canada Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, and the requirements of the National Fire Code of Canada regarding emergency planning. This presentation is intended to provide guidance and suggested responses, to the possible threat of suspicious packages, envelopes, natural hazards and major emergencies that corporations are exposed to in our ever changing climate. |
